System failed to complete boot process, getting stuck before finished. Attempted to do image backups to an external USB drive using Acronis (Linux based image), it reported errors reading the drive, and when errors were ignored and only backed up 200 mb(compressed) of what should be 6 gb(compressed)Attempted to install as a second drive in a desktop, drive was detected but could not be properly recognized. Drive spins and does not click. BIOS HDD Self test causes the drive to spin, reports Read Failure.

Drive is NOT visible in BIOS; failed in OS. The laptop was not recognizing the drive at all. The drive was not opened. The laptop was under warranty so we took it in to get the hard drive replaced. They should not have attempted any recovery then.

The computer was fine when we left in one evening. When we turned it on the next morning, the computer did not come up (just blinks). Then we turned it off and restarted. It came up with the message "Press F1". Once F1 was pressed, it came up with the same message "Press F1". That continued for few times. Then we had sent the computer to our IT department. They told us: BIOS: acknowledges Hard Drive. Dell IDE Diagnostics: Error reading drive. Knoppix: No Hard Drive found.
